HISTORY OF BLUE VOYAGE

Blue Voyage being navigated over 50 years has a very interesting story.

The beginning of Blue Voyage depends on Cevat Sakir exile to Bodrum for 3 years due to a story he wrote. The authorities realized that Cevat Sakir's life in Bodrum was not a penalty any more, but pleasure, so they commanded him to come back to Istanbul. Cevat Sakir served the half of his penalty in Istanbul and then moved to Bodrum and lived there 25 years. During this period Cevat Sakir used the pen name “The Fisherman of Halicarnassus” inspired by the Karia period of Bodrum.

Cevat Sakir supported Bodrum to have this reputation.

The Fisherman of Halicarnassus and his friends Bedri Rahmi Eyuboglu and Azra Erhat, humanist intellectuals, began to trips to Gokova on the sponge divers sailing boats. These trips continue since 1950’s with the attendance of more people.
The name “Blue Voyage” is based on these prudent trips of these people who chose the sea to strenghten their friendships.

The trips which are appreciated by more people every year since 1950 are being made by gulet yachts.Gulets, very famous wooden yachts, welcome maximum 14-16 peorsons.

They were manufactured for fishermen and sponge divers at first and went through a process to become modern and comfortable. Although having engine they can sail as well.

There is a wide sundeck area on the front. There is bar, kitchen, seating group and dining table at the waist. At the stern there is a dining table, seating group and steering wheel whose upper surface is awninged, and there are cabins underneath.

The guests of the Blue Voyage wake up with the first sun rays. They swim and have breakfast, and the yacht sails a few hours and the guests trek and sightsee. If you do not like such sightsees, you can stay at the yacht and read or sunbath. Guests who are more active, swim, row, dive, fish or do watersport such as jet-ski or waterski.

The best time for Blue Voyage is between April and November. The Bule Voyage course comprise an area of 350 miles starting from Kusadasi to Antalya. Since the coast is sinuous, the range being sailed is longer and the customers are happy about it. There is a new bay, a village or antique city around every cape during the course...
